Progress

I've had trouble posting this past month, not because there hasn't been any wedding planning going on, but because I've been too busy. Just got back from ten days at Bennington to kick off my third semester there. (The picture is actually from a year ago, but you get the idea.) I'm working with Amy Hempel this term and she was shocked just to hear that I also work a full-time job, let alone that I'm also planning a wedding.

The save-the-dates are nearly ready to go out. We just have a few more addresses to compile. Such a pain. It's the friends like ourselves who are the worst, moving every year so it's hard to keep track of a current address. I've moved four times in the past three years, so I shouldn't really complain.

We set up our web site at wedding window, not the one I wanted to use because their templates are so hideous and cheesey, but they do have an RSVP option. We found a really basic design, thankfully, although the color options are not ideal. The next thing to tackle there is "Fun Things to Do in Maine!" Fun, indeed.

My parents are throwing us a small engagement party at the end of the month for people who live in the area. Suddenly we need something on our registry. We went to Crate & Barrel and it was a minor disaster. Part of the problem was that I was hungry and cranky at the time. Then we couldn't agree on which flatware and china we liked and came to the conclusion that neither of us actually liked any of the choices enough to even convince the other that this was the way to go. I thought the registry would be fun, like a huge shopping trip. But it kinda sucks. The easiest places to set up the registry are the most generic. We didn't want to do what everyone else does, but we probably will. Next I think we're heading to Macy's - ugh, Macy's! - where, at the 34th St store, - ugh, Herald Square! - they give you a scanner and we get to wander around the store and scan everything we want. Fantastic idea.

Moss, it turns out, will definitely be too expensive. We do not work in finance, nor do any of our friends, so there you go. Macy's and Crate and Barrel and Bed, Bath, and Beyond and Pier One it is. I hate us for it.

The photographer is booked. Check out Matthew Robbins. He's a friend of my brother's, so that was easy enough.

Progress is being made.
